Presentation on target grid planning at the Regulatory Management Conference of the North German Alliance.

How do electricity distribution grids have to develop further on the way to Germany’s climate neutrality? We have investigated this question within the scope of a target grid planning study for Netzgesellschaft Lübbecke mbH. In order to be able to deal with the multi-layered detailed questions in a competent manner, Eltrocon joined forces with Consentec GmbH from Aachen and EVU-ASSIST GmbH from Norderstedt. Results in short form:

  • Increase of today’s grid load by a factor of 2 to 2.5 by 2030, mainly due to new consumers such as heat pumps and charging infrastructure.
  • Isolated need for grid expansion in the medium-voltage grid and clear but varying need for grid expansion in the lower-voltage grids, depending on the respective supply task.
  • Significant increase in investment volume in the power distribution network by a factor of 2 to 5 required
  • Negative effects on the business results of Netzgesellschaft Lübbecke mbH to be feared within the 4th regulatory period

Michael Scherf (Netzgesellschaft Lübbecke), Julian Schmidt (EVU-ASSIST) and Dr.-Ing. Holger Weber (Eltrocon) were allowed to present a summary of the target grid planning study during the 60th Regulation Management Conference of the Norddeutsche Allianz on 07.12.2022 in Lübeck. The North German Alliance is a cooperation of 40 smaller and medium-sized distribution companies from Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia.

We thank all participants for the super cooperation in this competent team. It was fun!
